Emerging Voices - Living On: A Journey Through Loss to Renewal grew out of the poetry and artwork Laurel Rund created following the death of her husband of forty-two years. Writing became a way to give voice to the grief, sorrow, love, and memories that were often difficult to express.

As Laurel began sharing her poems, she discovered that they spoke not only to those grieving the death of someone they loved, but also to people experiencing many forms of loss-the end of a relationship or friendship, changes in health or physical ability, or the loss of a cherished dream.

Grief does not follow a timetable. It moves in its own way, sometimes quietly and sometimes with unexpected force. Healing does not mean forgetting, nor does it erase the wound left by loss. Over time, however, sorrow can soften its hold, allowing moments of peace, gratitude, hope, and renewed possibility to emerge.

Combining poetry, original artwork, and journal pages, Emerging Voices - Living On offers readers a place for reflection as they travel their own path through grief. The journal pages provide space to record personal thoughts, memories, and feelings, creating an opportunity for readers to give voice to their own experience of loss.

Writing helped Laurel heal during one of the most painful periods of her life, and her hope is that these pages will offer companionship and solace to others as they make their way through grief toward renewal.

Like a puzzle, grief comes in many shapes and forms, and so does the journey toward peace. Laurel's husband's death forever changed her life, but through that loss she eventually discovered a renewed and transformed spirit.

Today, when she meets someone who has experienced profound loss, she no longer simply says, "I'm sorry."

From a place of knowing, she can say, "I understand."
